A veteran facilities and ergonomics professional as well as a seasoned physical security professional, Kirk P. Williams is a co-author of the 1991 book "Interior Design of the Electronic Office: The Productivity Payoff" with primary author the late Walter B. Kleeman, Jr., PhD., Francis Duffy, and Michele K. Williams (now Robles). [ISBN 0442006136, 1992 ASID Polsky Prize.]
Williams was recognized nationally as a Certified Contract Interior Designer in 1991, was one of the first to become a Licensed Interior Designer in the District of Columbia, and is currently an Emeritus Member of the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society (HFES).
As a musician and composer, he provided music for KKTV (Colorado Springs' CBS Affiliate) special events and the "It's About Money" radio program on KHOW (AM 630) - both in the 1990's. He an fellow composer, John Carris, produced several "silly" Christmas songs, one of them you can listen too here: "Stinkin Rotten Elves" on the Ice Island page.
In 2010 and 2011, his activism with the Colorado-Wyoming Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) resulted in the passing of Colorado Senate Bill 87 to allow for a “PUC Medical Rate Exemption.”
Signed into law by Governor Hickenlooper, this bill helps medically-sensitive people (not just people with MS) better afford the costs of housing by giving the Public Utilities Commission the ability to exempt a home’s tiered rate plan created as a result of required high power consumption “based on a customer’s medical condition or use of an essential life support device.” To date, the PUC and Xcel Energy are still working on the process and rules for the administration of this accommodation.
On October 15, 2011, the Colorado-Wyoming Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society presented Kirk its award for "Outstanding Volunteer of the Year 2011" in recognition of his efforts.
